As the temperature drops, you need to add more clothing to protect yourself from the weather. So should your hair. Whereas in spring and autumn you can shower, walk outside with wet hair and trust that the season will work its magic on your mane, winter is not so good at ....... So what steps can you take in winter to keep your hair strong and healthy?
1.Reconsider your shampoo routine
Won't you get stuck in hair that looks like hay? Cool, I'm neither. A really simple way to make your hair's life easier is to cut down on shampoo. Unless you really need to, consider washing your hair every few days instead of every day. Less frequent shampooing means that your body's naturally occurring oils, which condition and protect your hair, will work longer, giving your hair much-needed moisture. When you do shampoo, be sure to pick a product that will cleanse your hair, but not deprive it.
2.Amplify your conditioner
After shampooing, conditioner is vital to restore moisture to dry hair. Conditioners are naturally moisturising, containing ingredients that nourish and protect the hair. However, many of the benefits can be lost (i.e. evaporated) in the humid environment of the shower. By adding heavy oils, you are essentially trapping the moisturising ingredients by creating an impermeable and watertight barrier, forcing the conditioner to stay put and start working. You definitely don't want to skip the conditioner part of your shower, but if you find that your standard conditioner is missing, top it up with oil. Using your regular conditioner as a base, mix in a heavy oil such as olive oil or jojoba oil and apply it to your freshly washed hair. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse it out as usual.yneed.co.uk
3.Consider the mask
A hair mask or treatment is probably the easiest way to treat and repair damaged winter hair. Are your Sunday evenings dedicated to an extensive, hours-long, spa-like skincare routine? Before you begin, put on a hair mask, condition and treat, then pop out of the plastic shower cap you brought from your hotel bathroom and dream of silky smooth hair.
4.Embrace all forms of moisture
You can condition, wear a mask and drink a ton of water, but have you ever considered steaming your hair? Seriously, the heat and humidity will moisturise your hair, making it soft and strong, and if it evaporates while masking, the treatment will penetrate further into the dry hair as the steam helps to lift the scales, just as facial steam opens the pores. If you use a humidifier, the saviour of all the dry throats and itchy skin associated with winter, to sleep, then it has already worked on your hair.
